Self-employment workshops

This is a workshop series for those who wish to consider becoming independent consultants or setting up their own businesses to sell a service or product. It explores the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to survive independently and not be part of the corporate culture as an employee. We look at such diverse areas as, starting or buying a new business, franchising, consultancy, interim management. We will consider marketing/selling techniques, low cost promotion, pricing, competition, raising finance, business plans etc.

We will also discuss structure such as the differences between being a ‘sole trader' or a Limited company, VAT registration, tax, insurance, and legal aspects. We provide appropriate reference materials, and at the end of the workshops, participants will have a good overall knowledge of the many important aspects of being self employed and working independently.

This programme is led by Peter Johnstone.
